Site occupancies of iron in saimaite and chevkinite

SONG Renkui, DING Kuishou and LI Zhe Institute of Geology and Geophysics , Chinese Academy of Sciences , Beijing 100029, China

Abstract

Saimaite is a new Zr-Ti silicate mineral. In this note X-ray and electron probe analyses for saimaite were carried out, and the chemical formula of saimaite was calculated. In addition, the Mossbauer effects of saimaite and chevkinite were investigated. Site occupancies of iron in the crystal structures of saimaite and chevkinite were determined, and the values Fe3+/(Fe3+ + Fe2+) were given. Based on these values the chemical formulas of saimaite and chevkinite were recalculated.
